Markets here are LIFE. From small squares filled with elderly neighborhood residents, to big halls dotted with perfect spots for an apéro; they are so popular that the whole food-related scene in the city revolves around their schedule (it’s no accident that no self-respecting resto is open on Mondays.) Honestly, you’d be hard-pressed to find a true Parisian who doesn’t visit a marché each week. Do as the locals do and skip the Monop’ supermarket. Head instead to one of these markets to stock up on wine, cheese, charcuterie, fruit, and vegetables for your Parisian picnic — there’s plenty of fresh, regional and seasonal produce just waiting to be scored (so forget about finding pears in summer for a poached pear tart — true story.) There are usually also some knick-knack vendors thrown in among the food stalls for good measure.
Indoor Markets
These markets are indoors and open during the week (except Mondays), so you won’t have an excuse to stay in bed. Bonus: most of these markets are located within architectural marvels or historical institutions, which you can admire as you chow down on saucisson (WARNING: choking hazard).

Marché des Enfants Rouges
This may be the oldest covered market in the city, but we can assure you it’s still kickin’! Established in 1615 and still standing in what is now the middle the most trendslutty neighbourhood ever, this place is where the historic meets modern — next to the humble apples and carrots you’ll find a wine bar, a cheese shop, and a few restaurants, each one better than the other. Perfect as a afternoon hang out spot in the middle of the city.
ADDRESS: 39 Rue de Bretagne (3rd arr.)
HOURS: Tue — Sat — 8:30a to 8:30p; Sun — 8:30a to 5p
NEIGHBORHOOD: Haut Marais
DEETS: oldest covered market, geek-worth of history, low-key in love with the lebanese resto there

Marché Saint-Germain
Marché Saint-Germain embodies the spirit of the neighborhood — a mix of chic and commercial, yet in the most classy way possible. While from the outside it may look like a normal shopping mall, placed under these beautiful arcades are also fruit and vegetable stalls, fishmongers, meat sellers and a cheese shop, as well as some *award winning* restaurants.
ADDRESS: 6 Rue Lobineau (6th arr.)
HOURS: Tue — Sat - 8a to 6p Sun — 8a to 3:30p
NEIGHBORHOOD: Saint Germain des Prés/Odéon
DEETS: cool arcades, food market but make it fancy

Marché Saint-Martin
Tucked between Place de la Republique and Canal St. Martin, this created by Victor Baltard (kind of a big shot in the city) hall hosts various food stalls as well as wine cave and low-key shops/diners with different type of international (notably Iberian and Marocan) food.
ADDRESS: 31 Rue du Château d’Eau (10th arr.)
HOURS: Tue — Sat — 9a to 8p; Sun — 9a to 2p
NEIGHBORHOOD: Faubourg St. Denis/Faubourg St. Martin /Faubourg Poissonnière/Rue de Paradis
DEETS: laid-back atmosphere, tapas place, international diners, fancy architect

Marché Saint-Quentin
This hall, made out of mix of pinkish bricks and green metal fits in perfectly in its location between Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est. Inside there’s a huge space for all types of typical market stalls, with the heart of it giving off some ~main square~ vibes, making the market kind of village of its own. The floor of the building is occupied by workshops of painters and decorators, so you may also have a peek of that artistic life.
ADDRESS: 85 bis Boulevard Magenta (10th arr.)
HOURS: Tue — Sat - 8a to 8p; Sun — 8a to 1:30p
NEIGHBORHOOD: Faubourg St. Denis/Faubourg St. Martin /Faubourg Poissonnière/Rue de Paradis
DEETS: hidden gem, artsy, international food stalls

Marché Beauvau AKA Marché d’Aligre
This definitely ~is not~ your friendly neighborhood market. I mean, it is; but it’s also one of the most famous and most diversified in the city. Since it first opened in 1781, the market grew in size a popularity until it finally burst at the seams and now spills out of the building and onto Aligre street six days a week. Between the stalls, apart from the usuals, you will find an enormous flea market (think everything, from old books and broken watches to great fabrics and small furniture) as well as a Vegetarian Butcher (yes, we swear that’s a thing).
ADDRESS: 25–11 Rue d’Aligre (12 arr.)
HOURS: Tue to Fri — 7:30a to 1:30p; Sat to Sun — 7:30a to 2:30p
NEIGHBORHOOD: Aligre
DEETS: antics market, historical place, worth the detour

Marché de Passy
In the middle of the 1%-er neighborhood there’s a place where the Chanel clutch bags are substituted with shopping trolleys and tote bags — still from Chanel, that is, but in a more relaxed style. If you find yourself wandering around the corner, come have a (reasonably priced) glass of champagne and some oysters, sit down, watch people and act like you belong.
ADDRESS: Place de Passy (16th arr.)
HOURS: Tue — Sat - 8a to1p and then 4p to 7p; Sun — 8a to 1p
NEIGHBORHOOD: Passy/La Muette
DEETS: Parisian to the bone, embodiment of je-ne-sais-quoi

Marché Batignolles
Full time market (and part time graffiti artists spot) is a heavy, but approachable hall. Located a stone’s throw from Montmartre, it’s perfect to pass it on you stroll down the great Parisian hill to buy a snack or some small jewerly or another knick-knack. Come on Saturday to check out Marché Batignolles in a fully organic/BIO version (words taken very seriously by Parisians), with products bought solely directly from the farmers.
ADDRESS: 96 bis rue Lemercier (17th arr.)
HOURS: Tue — Fri — 9a to 2p and 4p to 8:30p; Sat — 8:30a to 8:30p; Sun — 8:30a to 2p
NEIGHBORHOOD: Batignolles
DEETS: bio/organic, cool art, knick-knacks

Marché des Ternes
It’s not like we want to pin the markets against each other, but if Marché d’Aligre is too big and loud if you crave more authentic and intimate atmosphere, or it’s just, you know, sooooo far away, Marché des Ternes is your guy. Smaller, more calm and neighborhood‑y, will offer you whatever you may need, from a pound of butter to the furniture you’ll barely resist buying only because, *ugh*, luggage limits.
ADDRESS:8 bis rue Lebon (17th arr.)
HOURS: Tue — Fri - 8a to 2:30p and 4p to 7:30p; Sat — 8:00a to 7:30p; Sun — 8:00a to 1p
NEIGHBORHOOD: Ternes/Arc du Triomphe
DEETS: cozy, flea market

Marché La Chapelle
Also known as Marché de l’Olive, this place may not be on top of your lists when it comes to visiting Paris. Hidden in a tourist-free, immigrant-full zone between two sets of train tracks, the market is only visited by the real locals. It’s also a great place for those travellers who «just came back from a place far away and already miss this specific authentic thing that changed their life completely», as the variety of international products is surprising, even for Paris. Their tea room is also a great spot for people watching.
ADDRESS: 10 rue de l’Olive (18th arr.)
HOURS: Tue — Sat — 9a to 8p; Sun — 8:30a to 1:30p
NEIGHBORHOOD: La Chapelle
DEETS: international, real Paris, tea time friendly
